Claims handling procedures
The claimant should follow the instructions under the "Important Notice" part of the certificate. Failure to follow instructions may result in delays of claims settlement or possibly declinature of a claim.
The Freight Forwarder should log in and file the claim online in nmuforwarders.com and supply as much information as possible.
Please ensure that the correct certificate of marine cargo insurance number is chosen from the drop down menu.
You will receive instructions from Northern Marine Underwriters Ltd Claims Department (or Surveyors if appointed) but please help them by providing the following documents:
- Copy of the Certificate of Marine Cargo Insurance
- Commercial Invoice
- Packing List
- Bill of Lading / Air Waybill / Consignment Note
- Signed Delivery Receipt
- Copies of letter notifying Carriers of the claim and holding them responsible
- Carrier's replies if available
The instructions of Northern Marine Underwriters Ltd Claims Department or appointed Surveyors take precedence over written instructions here. Failure to follow instructions in respect of this claim may result in delays or possibly refusal of a claim.
Please keep full written records of all correspondence or conversations in relation to the claim.
If the claim amount is estimated to be OVER $1,500 or £1,000 or currency equivalent;
Contact either the Surveyor named on the certificate of marine cargo insurance or any Lloyd's approved Survey Agent. If you cannot make any contact with the surveyor named on the certificate of marine cargo insurance or any Lloyds approved survey agent then please contact Northern Marine Underwriters Ltd Claims Department for advice.
