Do I have to enter Certificates immediately?

Please enter details of all shipments where insurance is required soon as possible.

Cargo Insurance is placed at the time when you click to agree during the Certificate Request process. Unlike some 'Open Cover' policy agreements there is no automatic cover in place until you complete the Certificate Request form and click "I Agree"

Our certificates can be issued in the site up to twenty (20) days after the date of sailing, but will print with the wording "Warranted no known or reported losses" as of the date of issue meaning that any losses known at this time are not recoverable from underwriters.

Entering Certificate Requests daily is especially critical for Air and Road only shipments due to the short length of time in transit.

All of these procedures are designed to deny the insuring of a shipment after a known loss has occurred. For Example: If you ship something by air or road today, and it arrives tomorrow, and you had to enter the insurance request tomorrow, BUT the goods arrive damaged in the meantime: Underwriters will not accept the risk because at the time the request for cover was entered the goods were at their destination and damage was already known.

What if I do not have all the information to be able to issue a certificate prior to the shipment date?

You can either:

Issue a certificate with as much information as you have at the time but state within the text on the certificate: "This certificate has been issued with incomplete information & will be reissued as soon possible." Then issue a new certificate with the correct information and follow the procedure below for "How do I cancel (void) and replace a Certificate?"

Send an Email as follows including some of the details that you have:

To: nmuforwarders.com

cc: your insurance broker

Subject: Intention to Insure

Email text as follows:

For account number: ..........

Please note that we do not currently have enough information available to be able to issue certificate in respect of:

Client:

Goods (Interest) to be Insured:

Sum Insured:

Voyage:

Expected Sailing Date:

We will issue the certificate of Marine Insurance as soon as possible.

How do I know when a Certificate has been issued?

Once you have entered all of the shipment details, have selected the local surveyor and clicked "I Agree,", provided that you have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your Computer, a Certificate of Insurance will pop up in a separate browser window. You do not need to print the Certificate at this time as it is stored within the system and can be viewed and printed at anytime by entering the "Certificate Review" section of the system.

We must stress that you have a legal duty to forward a copy of the certificate in whatever format you choose to your client as they may need proof of the Marine Cargo Insurance that has been effected on their behalf and the procedures that they might need to undertake in case of loss or damage.

What happens once I have issued a Certificate?

You will receive an "Invoice" confirming the premium by email each time you issue a Certificate.

In addition to the Certificate of Marine Cargo Insurance, this is further confirmation that cover has been effected.

The Certificate can be viewed and printed at anytime by entering the "Certificate Review" section of the system.

A summary of all invoices detailing if paid or outstanding can be viewed by entering the "Invoice Review" section of the system.

When am I required to pay premium?

Itemised "Statements" showing all outstanding invoices are sent to your email account once a month. To pay the premium, follow the instructions on your statement or as you have agreed with your insurance broker. More information can be found on the "Premium Payment" page of this website.

What if I make a mistake when entering a Certificate?

For security reasons once a certificate has been issued it cannot be amended. If you make a mistake when entering a certificate and your client requires a technically correct document then you will need to request a certificate cancellation as below.

However, if there is no necessity to produce a new certificate, in certain circumstances, Underwriters will simply note their records provided that you email the details of any alterations to nmuforwarders.com

How do I cancel/void and replace a Certificate?

If a certificate you have issued needs to be replaced by another, issue a new certificate with the correct information.

Then, using your site menu option "Cancel Certificate" select the certificate number that you wish to cancel from the drop down and in the "Reason for Request" field state:

It has been reissued & replaced by Certificate Number: ..........

Underwriters will action your request as necessary.

How do I cancel (void) a Certificate without replacing it?

A certificate will be voided prior to shipment in certain circumstances, for example if a shipment is cancelled or the client decides that they do not require insurance before the commencement of transit.

Using your site menu option "Cancel Certificate" select the certificate number that you wish to cancel from the drop down and in the "Reason for Request" field state the reason for your cancellation request.

Please Note:

In very special circumstances Underwriters will agree to void a certificate after shipment has already begun however you will need to provide an acceptable reason and you must provide us with this notice as soon as possible.

Please also Note:

If you are unable to provide a reason that is acceptable to Underwriters you will be liable for payment of the premium.

What do I do if I have one shipment where the insured Interest falls in more than one category?

To ensure that you receive the correct rates, terms and conditions for each category of goods, you must issue a separate certificate for each category with the sum insured split appropriately.

Please Note:

If the entire shipment is in a Full Container Load then you can choose "Full Container Load" when issuing the certificate.

If I cannot get onto the Internet insurance site or access the Internet, and I need to insure a shipment, what do I do?

If, for any reason, the web site is not available, you can still arrange Marine Cargo Insurance cover by sending an email or fax with the information as follows:

To: nmuforwarders.com

cc: your insurance broker

Subject: Shipment to insure

Email Body:

For account number: ..........

Client:

Goods (Interest):

Sum Insured:

Voyage:

Method of Shipment:

Expected Shipment Date:

As soon as you have regained access, log in and insure the shipments as you normally would.

Please Note:

Our Internet system is very reliable utilising the very best up to date technology and our years of experience in this field. However there is always still the possibility that a problem occurs be it either with our system or others. If there is ever a time when you cannot log you can still arrange insurance. The email that we ask you to send serves as proof to Underwriters that you would have insured the goods had you been able to log in. When the site is again available, log in and insure the goods as you normally would. Cover is placed once you have sent the email. Provided that the transit would usually be covered by your policy.

How do I print my policy?

Your policy - the insurance contract - is made up of the Policy Wording / Schedule any applicable Institute Cargo Clauses stated within them.

Printing your policy is in two steps:

Firstly please go to the "Policy Wording" page of this website, and print the three sections: "Conditions", "Interests" and "Countries"

Secondly using your user ID and password, select the menu option “View Your Rates” to display your "Policy Schedule" which can be printed using your browser print button.

Both the "Policy Wording" and "Policy Schedule" complete your policy wording and agreement.

How do I print a Certificate?

Once you have had your application accepted by underwriters and have a unique user ID and password, you will be able to insure and issue certificates whenever you log in to the site using the appropriate site menus.

Once you have logged in, full details of how to enter the certificate details are contained within the site.

When you insure a shipment and provided that you have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your Computer, a Certificate of Insurance will pop up in a separate browser window for you to print.

If you wish to print a certificate issued at an earlier time, click "Certificate Review" on your main menu, locate & select the certificate number and again a Certificate of Insurance will appear in a separate browser window.

Do I need any special software to use the site?

Provide that you have internet access and also have the free software program: Adobe Acrobat Reader, you will be able to fully use our site.

Why, after issuing a certificate or choosing to view an old certificate the certificate does not 'pop' up in a separate window?

This is probably because you have a 'pop up blocker' installed on you computer. To be able to view & print Certificates of Insurance, you will need to turn the blocker off (or allow pop ups from nmuforwarders.com)
